Health Focus for practice management software

21 Years Old and Fresher Than Ever

Health Focus was formed in 1989. Then it was known as Orion Medical Management. The founder, Dr. Selwyn Moskovitz, started the company to answer a need for an easy to use and stable practice management system at a time when the personal computer was making large inroads into private medical practice.

What began more as a hobby for Dr. Moskovitz, to assist his fellow medical colleagues, has grown into the largest independent practice management software company in South Africa, operating not only in South Africa but six other African countries as well.

At the beginning of 2000 the company underwent a change, both of name and shareholding, with three new shareholders and directors buying into the revitalised Health Focus. Since February 2000 Health Focus has seen its customer base double, off an already large base. When asked what this could be attributed to, Paul Cooper, CEO of Health Focus, answered, “We concentrate on two key areas; customer service levels and leading edge technology. In fact, we are acknowledged in our industry, by our competitors, to be leaders in our field when it comes to technology employed and our customers acknowledge that we offer the very best service levels when compared with our closest competitors. Our motto is to systematically improve your practices profit potential and we employ technology to successfully achieve this goal.”

Mr. Cooper went on to add, “One of our key strengths is the length of service of our staff. Our directors all have over 15 years service in this industry, our managers have a minimum of 5 years service and the majority of our independent dealers have been working with us for more than 10 years. This ensures continuity of service to our customers as well as skills transfer to new comers in our business.”

Another major area of strength for Health Focus are their partners in business. Health Focus doesn’t believe in re-inventing the wheel; they believe in remaining focussed on what they do best, practice management. With this in mind they partner with the best in the industry when it comes to delivering integrated value added services to their customer base. Partners such as HealthBridge, Medprax, Switch and Nexion, to name a few, all leaders in their respective fields, bring a wealth of additional services to a Health Focus customer.

While Health Focus is the major player in the optometry practice management market, with not only their own software entitled Eminance but also through branded solutions such as SpecPac, for the Spec-Savers group, they cater to all private medical practices from, for example, a casualty unit or ambulance service right through to your GP and specialist practices and even your large multi-disciplinary primary health care clinics.

When asked what the next 21 years would be like Mr. Cooper had this to say “One thing is for sure, there is constant change in the medical industry, however, if you want stability, excellent service and a practice management partner that stands by you for the long haul then you should be with us.”
